Not all salt is equal...
I try not to let my novice knowledge endanger my horse. Einstein is purported to have paraphrased English writer Alexander Pope saying, "A little Knowledge is a dangerous thing. So is a lot."
That being said, I make every effort to educate myself in everything related to the health, well-being, and training of my mare.
I feel like that last sentence is setting up the actual situation I am going to describe as a very deep, meaningful, and full of great value:
I bought a new brand of salt block.
Yep. I've used the skills honed by years of riding, education, grad school, and professional employment to come to the consensus that I needed to get RedMare a new brand of salt block.
So glad those school loans supported such an outstanding use of education.
IF you are wondering, I had been giving her the Himalayan salt block from SmartPak. She ran out a couple weeks ago so I went around comparing prices for salt. It was a thrilling couple hours in my life. I ended up back at SmartPak and got a giant 3lb block of salt from US company Redmond Minerals. It was actually a little cheaper and bigger than the Himalayan block and since it's sourced in the US, by a US business, I do feel a little proud as a peacock. Internal high-five!
Dassah gave her immediate approval by going to town on it. I tried to get a true action shot but she caught me and wouldn't lick it for as long as I had my iPhone up. Brat.
But don't let that stop you from checking out the pictures. They are r-i-v-e-t-i-n-g.
Move over all you famous photogs, there's a new hotshot in town.

Horses seem to love the not-so-normal salt block,I won't lie, I've licked them too.

ReplyDeleteApparently it's quite the hit with her - she definitely made progress on it overnight. Good thing she's a serious water drinker!
